Virginia Louise Duffey

Virginia Louise Holloway, 92, of Cocolalla, Idaho, was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Radford, Virginia, from where she was named. She was one of six children born from the union of Denver and Leona (Reisig) Holloway. As a toddler, the family moved back to Monroe. She was raised in Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended Boyd School and was a 1946 graduate of Monroe High School. She had worked at Siegels, Reisig Cleaners and Bell Telephone Company. Virginia married the love of her life, Paul J. Duffey, on Sept. 16, 1950, at St. John Church in Monroe. Together they had four children. Sadly, he preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2001. She and Paul enjoyed traveling. Some of their fondest family memories were at Sage and Devil's Lakes. They also wintered in Florida for many years. Ginny had volunteered with Thrift Shop Association, Mercy Memorial Gift Shop, St. Mary School, high school class reunion committees, working with at-risk children in Martin County, Florida. Virginia was an animal and nature lover her whole life, housing cats, fish, birds hamsters, bunnies and a summer of 6 puppies. Some of her lifelong passions were gardening and playing bridge, sketching and oil panting. She will be remembered as a dignified, elegant and kind Christian lady. Her love of the Lord was constant and ever-seeking. She was baptized in the Holy Spirit in her 70s. Faith and family were important to her. After a brief but significant decline, she passed peacefully on Dec. 23. Virginia was a lifelong Monroe resident and spent the last 4 years living with her son, Steve, in Idaho. Cremation has already taken place. A family memorial was held this summer in Idaho. A memorial mass will take place on Monday, September 27 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Monroe, MI. A private burial of her cremated remains will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe. Virginia leaves behind to cherish her memory 4 children, Steve Duffey of Cocolalla, Idaho, Shawn (Sue) Duffey of Spokane, Wash., Holly (Gary) Jones of Monroe and Joan (Brad) DeVore of Cornelius, North Carolina. 10 grandchildren: Bobbie (Inecca) Caffe; Teresa Caffe; Deva, Brendan and Rani Duffey; Rachel Jones Tansel; Ryan Jones; Adam, Jordan and Jay DeVore. 6 great-grandchildren: Emma and Ethan Caffe, Isabella and Olivia Jones, and Ruskin and Hudson Tansel. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Bill and Jack Holloway; three sisters, JoAnn Morwood, Millicent Farmer and Barbara Jennings; and a dear niece, Becky Jennings Kopietz.
