Obituary for Josephine Mignano

Josephine Mignano, age 86 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 in the emergency room of ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

Josephine was born on September 27, 1937 in Borgetto, Sicily, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Francesca (Castronovo) Rappa. On December 1, 1956, she married Russ Mignano at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Josephine worked alongside her husband as a co-owner and operator of Holiday Venture, a family-owned apartment development and rental business in Monroe.

Josephine was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and always looked forward to family gatherings. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, listening to Italian music, and dancing.

Josephine is survived by her husband of 67 years, Russ Mignano; her daughter, Antonina (Scott) Goins of Monroe; two brothers, Andrew (Annette) Rappa of Bell Port, NY and Frank Rappa of Melville, NY; two sisters, Lena (Vincenzo) Garifo of Merrick, NY and Vita Rappa of Glen Oak, NY; and two grandsons, Russell and Nicholas Goins. Also survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Sam Mignano, Lino and Anna (Mignano) Perna, Josephine (Mignano) Perna, Maria (Mignano) Liparoto, Joe and Linda Mignano, Salvatore and Grace (Mignano) Vicari, several nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by a brother, Girolamo (MaryEllen) Rappa, father in law, Antonino Mignano, mother in law, Antonina Mignano; sisters in law, Betty (Mignano) Pezzino, Antonina (Perna) Mignano; brothers in law, Antonino Mignano, Joseph Perna, Frank Liparoto, Frank Pezzino; niece, Antonina (Mignano) Lewis and nephew, Tony Mignano.

Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 21st at Bacarella Funeral Home where a Scripture Service will be held at 6 p.m. Josephine will lie in state the following day, Monday, at St. Michael Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
