December 2, 1926 – September 22, 2021 Helen S. Hurley, age 94 of Monroe, went to heaven to be with her beloved husband and son on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Helen was born on December 2, 1926 in Monroe. She was one of two children born to the late Frank and Frances (Hanak) Sebesta. Helen attended Monroe High School. She then met who would soon become the love of her life, Richard Hurley, Sr., at Floral City Roller Rink. Richard told his friend he would like to meet the “beautiful woman in the red dress and long brown hair.” Soon they would marry at St. Michael’s Church on May 12, 1945. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. From their union, they raised two sons and a daughter. Helen was a lifelong homemaker to her husband and children. However, as a young woman she worked at Speedway Restaurant, The Family Theatre as a ticket taker and usher, and later at the Hurley Family Restaurant in Ida in the late 1940s. For many years, Helen was also a Bluebird and Campfire Leader for her daughter and her classmates at St. Michael’s Elementary School. Helen was a member at St. Michael’s Church for over 75 years. She was also a member of St. Michael’s Alter Society, the Monroe Senior Center, Royal Neighbors of America, and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Helen was also a Eucharistic Minister and she helped count the church offerings. She enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and watching Hallmark movies, games shows, and Tiger baseball games. Helen also enjoyed being with her family, attending family gatherings, and occasionally going on family trips. To cherish her memory, Helen leaves her children: Rebecca (Mike) LaVoy, Ronald (Gail) Hurley, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Hurley; grandchildren: Richard A. (Jamie) Hurley, Troy M. (Amy) Hurley, Tracy L. (Ken Macky) Hurley, Tiffany (Chris) Vail, Jason M. Hurley, Jess R. (Shonna) Hurley, Heath LaVoy, and Landon (Huan) LaVoy; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great- grandchildren; and sister, Mrs. William (Ruth A.) Parker. Along with her husband and parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Hurley, Jr.; sister, Marjorie Preston; and one brother. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at Rupp Funeral Home, with a scripture service starting at 7:00 pm that evening. A funeral mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at St. Michael Church. She will lie instate at 10:00 am with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Fr. Phil Ching. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
