Michael J. “Mickey” Fanola, 93 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 28, 2024 in his home.
Born June 2, 1930 in Stoughton, Massachusetts, Mickey was the son of the late Joseph and Ernestine (Bausano) Fanola. He was both baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Mickey was a 1949 graduate of Robert E. Barber High School in Highland Park, MI.
Mickey served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
On September 18, 1973 Mickey married his beloved wife, the former Janice L. Cawood in Las Vegas, NV. Sadly, Janice preceded him in death on October 11, 2021 after 48 years of marriage.
In 1963 Mickey, along with his brother Secondo purchased Joe’s French Italian Inn in Monroe. Although Mickey retired in 2016, he still enjoyed visiting the restaurant and going table to table visiting and socializing with those having dinner.
In addition to socializing, Mickey enjoyed keeping his yard immaculate, snow skiing, trips to Las Vegas and watching sporting events.
Mickey is survived by two grandsons: Chayson (Tesia) Hurst and Christopher Hurst, a niece, Martina (Joseph) Fanola Mesko, a nephew, Joseph (Misty) Fanola and their children: Dustin, Secondo, Anthony, and Jaclyn, and two stepdaughters: Cindy England-Hurst and Terry Hastings.
In addition to his parents and wife Janice, Mickey was preceded in death by a son, Michael, his brother Secondo, and a stepdaughter Bonnie England.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 7 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:00 am. Mickey’s niece Misty will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
