Horwath on January 31, 1952; spending over 49 years devoted to their love until his death in 2001. Shirley completed her education at St. Gregory High School in Detroit, graduating with the class of 1945. Prior to starting a family, she served as a bookkeeper at a Detroit gas utility company. She embraced an active social life, demonstrating her involvement as a coordinator and advocate for the renowned Orange Bowl Tennis Classic, which gained coverage in the Northville Record. Shirley's prowess extended to the tennis court and golf course, where she competed in leagues against opponents half her age. Additionally, she found pleasure in engaging in bridge matches with her circle of friends. Shirley's zest for life was evident in her frequent travels with both family and friends, venturing to destinations like Florida, Hawaii, and Aruba, where she fearlessly indulged in parasailing. Cherished memories of family vacations remained close to her heart throughout her life. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shirley exuded unparalleled love, a gentle spirit, and a nurturing demeanor. Her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Shirley is survived by her loving children, Diane Horwath, Mary (James) Graves, and John R. Horwath Jr.; her grandchildren, Jim (Shannon) Graves, Kari Graves, Kelly Graves, and Jennifer (Mike) Vittore; her great grandchildren, Taylor Graves, Kirsten Graves, Devin Graves, and Charlie Vittore; and her great-great grandchild Bear Graves.
