In Loving Memory of Richard Whitney Richard "Dick" Whitney, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 21, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Peg, he was a devoted father to John (Kathleen), James (Jeanne), and Joseph (Lauren). Dick took great pride in his role as a grandfather to Colin, Kaitlyn, Molly, Sean, Wallace, and Lyle. Dick dedicated his life to education, serving as a teacher in the Detroit Public schools for 40 years. He was not only passionate about imparting knowledge to his students but also about instilling in them a love for learning that would last a lifetime. A pillar of his community, Dick was actively involved in Holy Family Church, where his faith guided his actions and interactions with others. He found solace and strength in his spiritual beliefs, and his presence will be sorely missed by his church family. An avid outdoorsman, Dick felt most at home in nature. Whether he was hiking through the woods, fishing on a serene lake, or tending to his yard, he found peace and contentment in the great outdoors. His hands were skilled in both fixing and building, and there was no challenge too great for him to tackle. Friends and family will fondly remember Dick's warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His legacy of kindness and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Visitation will be held at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Instate at Holy Family Church 24505 Meadowbrook Novi Wednesday 10:00am until the funeral Liturgy at 10:30 am. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed to allow all who wish to pay their respects.
