Jeanne Marie Dorr

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Gerry" Dorr; her parents Joseph and Verona (nee Grace) Pomeroy; and two sisters, Shirley (Frank) Moher and Halla Pomeroy. She is survived by her three daughters, Karen (William) Edie; Vicki (Christopher) Ayles; and Lori (Maurice) Smith; her grandchldren Carrie (Shawn) Lockman; Jessica (Sidney) LeBlanc; Marc (Heather) Edie; Kevin Edie (Mara Tharp); and four great grandchildren. Jeanne was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1929 and graduated from Cooley High School and Highland Park Junior College. She married Gerry in July 1951 and they were married until the time of his death in 1979. Jeanne and her family moved several times, living in Pontiac, Michigan; Jackson, Michigan; Portage, Michigan; and returned to the Detroit area in 1967. Jeanne returned to school after her daughters were in school, graduating from Western Michigan University in 1967. Jeanne was very active, belonging to the American Association of University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as president. She also served as attendance chair for the Community House Senior Women's Club in Birmingham, Michigan and was elected president in 2001. Jeanne taught language arts for 27 years at Derby Middle School in Birmingham, Michigan. There was plenty opportunity for travel during school breaks and summer vacations. Jeanne loved to travel... visiting England, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Spain, Greece, Hawaii, Alaska, and several cruises for various Caribbean destinations. The funeral service will be private with only close family attending. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
