Sam Taormina

Sam Taormina, age 86, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 in his home.
Sam was born March 21, 1938 in Palermo, Sicily; he was the son of Giovanni and Marianna (Vitale) Taormina. He married Bernadine Rappa September 22, 1956 in Sicily.
He joined his wife, Bernadine and baby daughter, Marianna in Monroe in 1958, in the following years his parents and siblings also moved to Monroe. After arriving here he was a cement contractor, owned Sam’s Pizza and A-1 Motors.
Sam enjoyed being active, he bowled every Wednesday at noon and went to Plant Fitness everyday. He also loved to fish, was a member of Monroe Boat Club and looked forward to spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinner at his daughter, Marianna’s house. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his four children, Marianna (Salvatore) Frisina, John (Crystal) Taormina, Frank (Annette) Taormina and Linda (Carey) Taormina; five siblings, his twin sister, Maria (Luigi) Scotti, Joseph (Tina) Taormina, Gino (Concetta) Taormina, Severino (Esther) Taormina, and Savina (Bino) DeLuca; nine grandchildren, John Frisina, Maria Towne, Sam Frisina, John Taormina, Ashley Steward, Salvatore Taormina, Lino Taormina, Amanda Friar and Nick Friar; eleven great grandchildren, Sophia, Isabella, Makenzie, Lester, Jr., Jacob, Francesca, Wesley, Henry, Landon, Elijah and Elenora; many nieces and nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Aurelio Taormina.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 12 noon at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI. Rev. Rick Massingill will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
Memorial contributions in Sam’s memory are suggested to Monroe Boat Club.
