Rose M. “Dolly” DeSmet, age 96 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Muskegon, MI while visiting family.
Born August 24, 1927 in Monroe, Dolly was the daughter of the late Armand and Louise (Cannoe) Julian. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1946 and married Maurice K. DeSmet on April 10, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together they raised two children. Sadly, he preceded Dolly in death on October 6, 2011.
Dolly was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and longtime member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was actively involved in its Christian Women’s group. She was also a member of the Belgium American Club and the Monroe Senior Center.
Dolly is survived by her loving children, Cynthia Carlton of Muskegon and Arthur (Margaret) DeSmet of Monroe; four beloved grandchildren: Matthew (Jennifer) Carlton, Polly (Patrick Cotant) Carlton, Alex (Nicole) DeSmet, and Nicole DeSmet; and three precious great-grandchildren: Lucas, Claire, and Fletcher.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dolly was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Richard Julian, and a sister, Mae Serbin.
Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 6th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will begin at 3 p.m. Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu of St. Michael Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Humane Society of Monroe County.
