Rita M. Beck

Rita Mary Beck February 22, 1927 – September 19, 2021 Rita Mary Beck, age 94 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living. Born on February 22, 1927 in Monroe, Michigan, Rita was the daughter of the late Albert and Francis (Larrow) Wehner. Rita graduated from Monroe High School in 1945. On April 12, 1947, Rita married James Beck at St. John Catholic Church in Monroe. They spent all of their 72 years of married life in the Monroe area. Rita spent several years working at Michigan Bell as a telephone operator and later worked at Monroe Bank and Trust, from where she retired in 1986. Rita was a lifetime member of St. John Catholic Church. She was involved in the Parent-Teacher Organizations at both St. John Elementary School and Monroe Catholic Central. She volunteered for many years with the Mercy Memorial Guild and was also an active member of the South Monroe Townsite Garden Club. After retirement, Rita and her husband, James, traveled extensively both in the United States and foreign countries and spent many winters in Madiera, Flordia. They also took many short trips with local senior groups. To cherish her memory, Rita leaves three sons: James (Marlene) Beck, Thomas (Diane) Beck, and Paul (Debra) Beck, all of Monroe and a brother, Ronald Wehner of St. Petersburg, Florida. She will also be greatly missed by 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by four brothers: Milton Wehner, Albert Wehner, Richard Wehner, and Peter Wehner; as well as a sister, Donna Spaulding. Everyone is invited to the funeral mass on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at St. John Catholic Church of Monroe. Rita will lie instate at 11:00 am with the funeral mass starting at 12 noon. Officiating is Fr. David Burgard. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Memorial donations in Rita's memory may be made to St. John Catholic Church.
