Obituary for Pete Zanger

Pietro “Pete” Zanger, age 91, of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Pete was born August 10, 1932 in Monroe, he was the son of Jack and Maria (Pagelli) Zanger. He married Mary Anne Marchese September 3, 1960 at St. Joseph Church, Monroe.
Pete was a 1951 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central where he played basketball.
He served his country in the US Army from December 10, 1952 until his honorable discharge November 17, 1954.
Pete was employed at Ford Motor Company for 45 years; retiring in 1996.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1138. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed small game hunting, fishing, bowling at Nortel Lanes and played underhand fast pitch softball for many years.
Pete is survived by his wife of more than 63 years, Mary Anne; four children, Jack Zanger of Monroe, Karen (Lou) Langermann of Winter Garden, FL, Patty Zanger of Monroe and Teresa (Rick) Mayne of Newport; two brothers, Michael (Antoinette) Zangara and Dominic Zanger; two sister-in-law, Shirley Zanger and Judy Zangara; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Jessica, Justin, Louis IV, Hillary, Kristen, Pete and Jeffrey; fifteen great grandchildren and one more on the way; many nieces and nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Mary Cusumano, Josephine Brusca, Antonio Zanger and Santo Zangara; brother-in-law, Benny Brusca and sister-in-law, Maddalena Zanger.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. He will lie instate at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Marys Catholic Church with a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Rev. David Burgard, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe with military honors by VFW Post 1138.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pete’s memory are suggested to VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
