Raymonde Gelibert

aymonde was born the daughter of Adrien Malebranche and Rosalie Jean-Louis in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on August 6th, 1934. Raymonde did her schooling and began practicing as a registered nurse at a very early age in order to assist in supporting her mother, grandmother, and siblings. She married Joseph Jean Gelibert in 1955 in Port-au-Prince, where they started their family with the birth of their first and second sons in 1957 and 1958 respectively . In 1962, Raymonde joined Joseph in Brooklyn, New York where they continued to add to their growing family with the births of two additional sons and "finally" their baby girl. Raymonde became the conduit for entry of her mother and siblings to New York, where they each were able to complete schooling, become US citizens, and raise their families together. Raymonde's home hosted all holiday festivities, family gatherings, and celebrations. Her love and strength was a beacon to all family members and she earned the moniker "Mommy Raymonde" as she was called by all.

Raymonde loved to crochet blankets for family and friends. She enjoyed reading. Raymonde was always the comforter. She helped raise her brothers and sisters, and took care of her mother. After the passing of her husband in June of 1990, Raymonde moved to MI in 1992 and helped her daughter Myrlene raise her new family. Raymonde loved music and dancing and you would always catch her shoulders and hips moving to the music, regardless what room she was in.

Raymonde is survived by her children Harry Jocelyn Gelibert, Johnston James (Lotus) Gelibert, and Myrlene (Robert) Gelibert-Bush; grandchildren Yaquita Gelibert, Harry Gelibert Jr.; Amanda Gelibert, Nadje Gelibert, Asia-Zaire Gelibert, Marc Gelibert Jr. , Mecca Gelibert, Dominque (O’Neil) Crooks, Angelique Bush, and Robert Bush Jr.; siblings Fritz Edner (Bernadette) Jean-Louis, Antonine (Edner) Cadet, Marie-Ange (Christian) Barometre, Claude (Rubiner) Malebranche and Adrien Malebranche Jr; and many nieces and nephews. Raymonde was predeceased by her husband; parents; siblings Carlo Romain, Roger, Reynauld and Rosemarie Malebranche; and children Joseph Jean and Marc Edouard Gelibert.

Raymonde’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Monday June 10th, 2024 from 10am until the time of the funeral service at noon at Family Funeral Care, located at 2901 Orchard Lake Road, in Keego Harbor, Michigan.
