Giacinto Lorenzo Simone

Giacinto Lorenzo “Larry” Simone was born on January 30, 1933 in the small town of Abbateggio, Italy where his parents ran most of the local businesses. They owned the local store, butcher, coffee shop and bar.

At 17, Larry left for America with not much more than the clothes on his back. Before departing Italy, he committed his love to Theresa, his wife of 64 years.

When he arrived in North America, he began his journey in Toronto, Canada. Being the hard worker that he was, he immediately got to work making deliveries for small cleaners in the area.

Not long after his arrival in Canada, he migrated to Trenton, Michigan and after just a few years following his arrival in America, that beautiful Italian girl that he’d committed himself to all those years before, came to join him and build a beautiful life together.

Our father was filled with work ethic and pride in everything he did including running a successful construction company, Simone Cement, where he taught his four children how to run a business, and the value of a dollar.

In 1963, our father became an American citizen. Being an American meant the world to him. The year following, he began his career at McLouth Steel where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Following retirement, he joined the team at Target Steel as an advisor, where he was vital to the company’s growth and success.

One of Larry’s greatest prides was the work ethic he instilled in each of his children, including Valentino Simone, President and Michael Simone, Vice President of Target Steel, his daughter Linda Webster who became a highly successful executive at RENKIM Corp and his son Frank Simone. One of the highlights of Larry’s life was the day Frank passed the bar and became an attorney- he is now a Wayne County Prosecutor and defender of the people.

Larry was a very competitive bocce ball player and also enjoyed playing cards with his brothers & brothers-in-law. He also enjoyed making wine to share with family and friends.

Our father was an amazing dad, and a wonderful grandfather. One place we could always find him at any family event was dancing with his daughter Linda, where he would spin her all over the dance floor. He loved spending time with all of us and would always slow down enough to enjoy vacations to Disney World, cruises and family trips up north to Bellaire Lake & Torch Lake.

He cherished his 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Our entire family would flock to his house for Sunday dinner where he would enamor us with stories of his journey to America.

Our father’s greatest love and joy was his wife and soulmate, Theresa. Our mother remembers their first walk together back in 1949. They walked and talked for hours as time stood still- of course they had a chaperone at all times!

Larry spent his twilight years with Theresa in their home in Trenton, where they would take walks and little drives around the town. On Friday, March 4, 2022, our beloved father & husband was called home, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Theresa. Loving dad of Valentino (Sara) Simone, Francesco Simone, Leontina “Linda” (Dan) Webster and Michael (Bethany) Simone. Proud grandpa of Cristina (Joe) Sexton; Valentino Simone, Jr.; Angela and Daniel Webster; Jacqueline, Matthew, Michael and Alexander Simone. Proud nonno of Sophia Webster; Joseph and Jacob Sexton. Cherished brother of Michael, Victorio, Anna, John, Mario and Rudolpho. Son-in-law of Anna and Frank DiToro. Brother-in-law of Angie Carlone. Also adored by Tracey Constable and many other loving family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Valentino and Leontina (nee: Colangelo) Simone and three sisters Lydia, Concetta and Giacinta. Visitation was on Tuesday. Giacinto will lie in state on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 9 am at Our Lady of the Woods Catholic Church, Woodhaven until the time of the funeral liturgy at 9:30 am.
