Theresa K. Gougeon

Theresa Kathleen Gougeon (Brow), age 62 of Canton Michigan, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at home, surrounded by her family. Theresa was a true warrior battling ovarian cancer for 4 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and great aunt.

Theresa was born on March 26, 1961 to Harvey and Rosemary Brow in Lincoln Park, MI. She was the eldest of 4 children. Theresa grew up in Dearborn Michigan and spent her childhood camping and enjoying the outdoors with friends in the Wee Otters camping club. She graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1979, and she then attended cosmetology school.

She worked many years for the Detroit News and then worked for her Uncle Jim’s company, Craig Assembly, where she led the QS9000 certification and auditing effort until the early 2000’s.

In 1998, Theresa met Bradley Gougeon at St Henry Church in Lincoln Park, MI. Theresa and Bradley married at the lookout in the Porcupine Mountains in the U.P. on June 19, 1999. They welcomed their son, Alexander Julius Gougeon, into their family on December 28, 2001.

Due to health complications, Theresa stopped working outside of the house and stayed busy devoting her time to her son Alexander and husband Bradley. Theresa always put family first.  Helping her family out whenever she could warmed her heart. She spent a lot of time doing what she loved best: babysitting the children of her two sisters, Cathy and Nancy, whenever they needed it. She was truly a second mother to her nephews Avrey and Garrett (Cathy) and Zachary (Nancy).

Theresa was a devoted Catholic and kept her faith until the end.

Survivors include her parents Harvey and Rosemary (Plosz) Brow; her loving husband of 23 years Bradley Gougeon and son Alexander Gougeon; her sister Cathy (Gary) Yesue and nephews Avery Poloni and Garret (Allison) Yesue; her brother David (Roseanne) Brow, niece Morgan (Shane) Detweiler, nephews Matthew (Katie) and Andrew (Tara), and great nephew Logan Detweiler; her sister Nancy (Jeffrey) Davis, nephew Zachary (Jessica) and great nephew Elijah Davis; her brother-in-law Jeffery Gougeon; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Theresa is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Alexander and Helen Plosz; paternal grandparents Woodrow and Bernadette Brow, mother- and father-in-law James and Zoe Gougeon; uncle and aunt James and Susanne Plosz; and brother-in-law Ronald Gougeon.

Theresa’s wish was to be cremated and buried with her grandparents at Our Lady of Hope cemetery without memorial or visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance would be requested as the support they have provided Theresa in the past 4 years was phenomenal. Donate to OCRA's General Contributions (ocrahope.org)
