Rachel Abbott, age 53, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, under the care of Ebeid Hospice.
Born September 16, 1971, in Monroe, she was one of two daughters born from the union of the late Michael and MaryJane (Neely) Van Slambrouck. Rachel attended and graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1989 and went on to receive her Bachelor of Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. For 15 years she served as a substitute teacher for the Jefferson School District.
Rachel met Chad Abbott, her family’s lawn boy at the time and sparks flew. He was fired by her father for taking too long to mow but as fate would have it, their love continued to grow and in 1995, they married. Together they raised two sons and spent 30 wonderful years together.
Rachel was completely enamored with airplanes. She loved the Blue Angels and going to air shows. She received her Solo Flight Certificate allowing her to fulfill a dream and fly a Cessna Aircraft. There was a time in her life that she thought she was a stylist, unfortunately, her sisters Barbies suffered those consequences.
Rachel was an extremely empathetic and caring woman. She was an avid reader, but her favorite past time, by far, was spending time with her family, playing board games or simply sitting by the fire making s’mores. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her loving husband, Chad, two sons; Logan and Jessen Abbott, a sister, Stephanie (Jeremy) Duran, two nieces: Lydia and Marianna Duran and a nephew, Michael Duran.
She is preceded in death by her parents Michael and MaryJane Vanslambrouck.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and she will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
