Joan T. Allor, age 92, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Medilodge of Monroe.
Joan was born August 22, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Dr. Charles and Anna (Goodman) Karibo. She married Michael J. Allor October 30, 1971.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in theology and education from Mount St. Joseph University, Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a teacher for many years; she taught in Cincinnati, Lansing, MI and later at St. John and St. Michael Catholic Schools in Monroe. She also helped with religious education and was a chaplain at the Monroe Jail for 28 years.
Joan was a member of St. Joseph Church, Monroe for many years and very active in the parish, serving as pastoral assistant to Fr. William Fisher during his tenure. Once St. Joseph Church closed, she and Mike became members of St. John the Baptist Church.
Joan had been honored with numerous awards from the Archdiocese of Detroit for her volunteering and jail ministry.
She is survived by her husband, of 53 years, Michael Allor; sister, Mary Theresa Allor; sister-in-law, Jan Karibo; nieces and nephews, Collin, Rory, April, Holly, Kali, Noah, Christine, Tommy and many nieces and nephews on the Allor side and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tom Karibo and Dr. David Karibo.
Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where a scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. She will lie instate on Tuesday, March 18 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
