Born July 3, 1950 in Monroe, Doug was the son of Floyd and Yvonne (Jacobs) Leach. After graduation from high school, he received his associates degree. Doug worked at the Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant for over 35 years, retiring in 2009. An avid car enthusiast, he was a member of the National Corvette Restoration Club, the Downriver Corvette Club and Jerry’s Euchre Club. Doug drove in NHRA A-Hot Rod and A-Modified Production, winning dozens of trophies. Along with his father and brother Lonnie, restored 5 antique cars, 4 of which won the prestigious Meadow Brook D’Elegance honors. His passion though was the restoration of Vintage Corvettes. Doug’s 1960 Corvette was a NCRS Gold Platinum Award winner as the Highest First Time Point Winner in the history of judging.
Doug leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Kyrsten (John) Niemiec; 2 grandchildren: Carolina Niemiec and Carter Niemiec; as well as 5 siblings: Rochelle (Al) Begin, David (Connie) Leach, Denise Jones, Diane (Dan) Bush and Lonnie Leach. Sadly he was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dean Leach and a sister Roslyn Leach.
A celebration of Doug’s life has been planned under the care of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes-Allore Chapel; 203 E. Elm Ave., Monroe. Friends may call Thursday from 2pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be Friday. He will lie in state from 10am until a Mass of Resurrection at 11am from St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
